It was cold today. According to the weather reports this morning, it was 22F (7F with wind chill), or as one person put it "cold as a witch's teat"... whatever that means. It also snowed a bit, but it was just a flurry of snow flakes, and nothing serious.

We started editing our movie today, but of course, before we were even able to edit, we spent the last couple of days trying to capture correctly. For some reason, the captures we did had video with the wrong framerate, and audio that was severely chopped up. We tried using a DV camera as well as a deck, and neither of them were able to even play back correctly. We did have one video camera that was able to playback our tape correctly, but the camera also refused to cooperate with either iMovie or FinalCut Pro 3. At some point today, I discovered that if I launch iMovie after starting playback on the camera, it would actually recognize the camera and start capturing. This was, of course, 5 hours after we started today. We spent another hour actually capturing, then another hour trying to figure out why FCP kept requiring us to render the audio (even though both the sequence and media were in 48kHz 16bit stereo -we never figured it out), then actually managed to do some editing. Of course, most of our footage turned out to be inadequate or lacking in some way, but I think we'll at least somehow manage to churn out results before next week's public showing. Knock on wood...

The one nice thing, though, is that we can edit on my PowerBook. I've got everything on my external FireWire drive, and I have a 17" monitor hooked up. I have the media manager window up on the PB LCD, with the timeline and two screens up on the external monitor. Not a bad setup, if I may say so. Of course, I'm sure those dual-2GHz G5s in the lab would be able to render loops around my dinky 867MHz G4...

Now I'm way behind in my reading for my 9am Classics class. I can either do some reading now and risk sleeping during class, or I can go to bed and be semi-alert for class but be behind in my reading... Ah... decisions, decisions. So why is it that I'm blogging if I have no time? Well, we always have time; it's just a matter of prioritizing.

I also have this sneaking suspicion that I might be in this sort of 2-edged love triangle (I guess that would be more like a B-Tree, or no, just a 3 node linked list with two of the nodes... no, that's not it either. hm... ). Anyway, hopefully I'm just making that up though...
