Wanderlust
For quite some time, I've had this silent yet nagging urge to disappear for a while; to just hop on my fuel guzzling SUV that otherwise sits idle in my dad's garage, and take off. I don't care where, and that would be half the fun. Maybe I'll go to the mountains, maybe to the ocean, or maybe both.

But all these years (months?) I've also been restricted from doing so for various reasons, mostly financial. Driving around a fuel guzzler is expensive, and feeding myself could be expensive as well. In the event that I can't find a good safe place to pitch a tent, lodging could be expensive too. On top of that, taking time off work means decreased income, so the financial hit I take is almost doubled.

This summer, things are different. Well, hopefully they will be. Assuming I get at least one of the contracts I've been in talks over, I'd have the financial backing as well as the freedom to work from anywhere I damn well please, even from on the road. I'd take my laptop with me, and armed with a T-Mobile HotSpot account I'd be no more than a day's drive away from high speed internet access. If all else fails, I could always use a modem. I can do most development work on my iBook, and get on the Net every day or two to check my mail and upload code.

I told the Critch about it, and he told me that I should drive all the way across the country and back, which was more than I was thinking, but not entirely a bad idea either. I was just telling Khai about it, and he got all excited. He said he'd come with me if I went on a trip, which will be pretty cool because I won't have to do all the driving, and he knows a lot of people across the country. I'd also feel a lot safer sleeping in the woods if I wasn't all alone. On the other hand, it might be harder for two Asian guys to keep a low profile in the South...
