The whole AAC vs CD argument
This somewhat critical review of the iTunes Music Store has kicked up some dust in blogsphere. In the article, he says:
When I compared the downloaded songs to the real CD it was no contest.
If you ask me, that's a moot point. The music store isn't competing with CDs. After all, if you want CD quality music, you can go buy a CD, and the chances are, that's exactly what people will do. But the fact remains that an uncompressed AIFF takes up about 10MB/minute (or 30-40MB for an average song); way too large for many people to download. Instead, what Apple's competing with is other music downloading services, and illegal downloads through P2P networks (which seems to be comprised primarily of 128kbps MP3s). If you compare 128kbps AACs to 128kbps MP3s, at least in my opinion, AACs have much better quality hands down.
