Life Update

Just a quick update on my life, since I haven't done that in a while (on this blog, at least)...

So last quarter ended up being my best quarter at the UofC, at least in terms of GPA. I think I actually did relatively well on the Discrete Math final, and ultimately got a B-. I spent 3 weeks of Winter Break on a friend's couch here in Chicago, and actually had a pretty productive time. Just about all my friends were out of town, and I was alone in the apartment for a week or so around Christmas, so I got to enjoy some time alone for a change.

This quarter I'm taking:

  • Algorithms - Second course in the sequence that started with Discrete Math. Same prof, but slightly more computer sciency topic.
  • Operating Systems - I took OS at Chico, but I'm taking it again so that I can write a kernel. We're writing a kernel in about a month, which is insane, but also very very exciting, since I've always wanted to learn more about OS internals. Of course, writing a kernel is also on every geek's todo list...
  • Intro to AI - I'm not sure if I'm going to stay in this class yet, mostly because all the projects are in Scheme and I don't know Scheme (for good reason... who the hell uses Scheme?).
  • Physics - The usual... I think it's electricity, magnetism, waves, etc this quarter.

So this quarter is going to kick ass, and it's definitely going to kick my ass. But, having survived last quarter, I guess I'm feeling lucky, or invincible or something. Of course, knowing that it'll all be over in 6 months doesn't hurt either.

That's about it for now kids and squirrels. 'Til next time!

Good start for IlohaMail

We're almost exactly a week into 2005, and IlohaMail's off to a very good start.

  • I now have an official Release Technician, who's going to do releases of the latest Devel branch code for me. It's the first time I got someone else to commit to a "position" in the project (other than as translator or packager).
  • Two ISPs, Lycos-Europe and Kagoya have informed me about plans to re-distribute IlohaMail. Lycos has about 3 million customers, and Kagoya supposedly operates over a thousand servers (so probably a few thousand sites including hosted users). (See official news release.)
  • I'm getting a lot of patches from users. One guy sent in 5 patches, and I got so overwhelmed I haven't processed them yet...
  • IlohaMail 0.9 simply kicks ass. I think just about everything people have asked for is or will be there (except POP folders), and it'll be about 4 times faster to boot.
So, yeah, I just need to keep working on it, and I think this could turn out to be a very good year for IlohaMail.
