Still alive...

If I had any readers before, I'm sure I've lost them now... Anyway, in case anyone cares, I'm still alive. I haven't been posting to my blog much mostly because I've been rather disconnected the last week or so. We don't have a broadband connection at home (in LA) and we only have one phone line, which means I'm lucky if I get to check my mail. Once every 2-3 days, I go to the library to use the connection there, but, alas, posting to my blog tends to have a lower priority (sorry, but it's true). Besides, since I don't spend much time just surfing, I don't have much to blog about anyway.

Mostly, I'm just the acting house wife (er... house son?) at home, since my mom's technically a visitor and she's exhempt from her usual duties. My brother doesn't have a driver's license yet (altough he did get his permit 2 days after coming to the US) so I have to shuttle him around, which is alright since he's not good at being at places at specified times on his own anyway. I also run errands (like apprpriating the huge quantities of food our family devours), and do some cooking. Cooking, for our family, is no easy task. First of all, we eat a lot. I mean, we probably eat twice the quantity an average family in Japan does. Secondly, my mom has this rule about having 10 different solid ingredients in each meal. For example, for dinner on Sunday, I made fried rice that had 8 different ingredients (garlic, chicken, onions, carrots, bell peppers, mushrooms, chinese cabbage and rice), Tuscan-style pork cuttlet and a side of tomatoes, which makes 10.

When I have time, I try to sit down and do some reading, mostly to prepare myself for the insane amount of reading we'll get at Chicago. Right now, I'm reading Homer's Iliad, and "My Century" by Gunter Grass. But without a good internet connection, I've done hardly any coding at all at home...

I'm back in Chico for the next few days, mostly to meet with my "bosses" about one of the projects I've been working on. Basically, it's just a "show and tell" type thing, to get some feedback since I never got solid specs to begin with. I also have to figure out when and where I'm getting paid. Yeah, kinda important. I'm staying at Mr. Hodes' and Suzie's place for a couple of nights... and they have DSL! Woohoo!

Let's see... Oh, my dad called earlier to tell me that he got stuff from Chicago about where I'll be living. Unfortunately, they're sticking me in an apartment-style dorm (#5 on map) for upperclass students. I was actually looking forward to living with a bunch of hot and horny 18 year... er, I mean, I assumed I'd get stuck with 1st and 2nd year students since I'll be either 1st or 2nd year myself. It might be awkward living with kids 5-6 years younger than me, but I thought I'd be living with the students who would be in my classes. Besides, my top 2 criteria were: close to or on campus, single room. I'll be living with 3 people, and will be 20 minutes from campus. Oh well, I walked to school everyday this past semester, so maybe it won't be so bad. Wait, yes it will be. Walking 20 minutes during winter in Chico and Chicago are totally difference experiences.
Let's just hope that I'll be with cool people... Or, maybe I could snag a chick who has a single room in Snell and infest her room. Yes, that would work too...

That should be enough for now. I think I've used up my quota of rambling for the month.
